AKOLA: The 700-member Akola Bar Assocation, in its general body meeting, unanimously decided to refrain from work in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Sangita Chandrakant Khalipe till November 13 in protest against her attitude towards the lawyers' community, according to advocate Rajesh Deshmukh, president of ABA.
The resolution to this effect was passed on the previous day following Advocate N P Shirote along with 131 bar members demanding a meeting to discuss the attitude of JMFC Khalipe towards the lawyers.
Senior member of the Bar and member of Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, B K Gandhi, prominent criminal lawyer Motising Mohta, senior lawyer S D Tayde, advocates S S Thakur, Laxmikant Ambarkhane and others spoke in support of the resolution.
Senior advocate S D Tayde in his speech alleged that JMFC Khalipe deliberately gives early dates with the difference of two to three days as a part of completion without providing adequate opportunity to the lawyers to conduct their cases. This is the second incident in recent time about the clash between the Bar and Bench.
In an earlier case, ABA observed a day's agitation on the court of district principal judge A P Mahajan following the latter's alleged ill-treatment to the legal fraternity.
